PROJECT NAME:
The Sierra Leone Connectivity and Agricultural Market Infrastructure Project (CAMIP)
The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Ministry of Transport and Aviation in collaboration with the Ministry of Works and Public Assets and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, is implementing the Sierra Leone Connectivity and Agricultural Market Infrastructure Project (CAMIP) over the period 2024 to 2029. Funded by the World Bank in the amount of US$74 million, the project is designed to enhance climate-resilient transport connectivity, improve agricultural market access, and strengthen mobility in Bo, Moyamba, Tonkolili, and Karene districts, where infrastructure gaps continue to constrain movement, trade, and local economic growth.
Project Components:
SL-CAMIP has four main components.
Component One: Resilient Urban Transport builds on IRUMP by scaling up urban mobility interventions in the Western Area, especially in Freetown. This component supports safer, more efficient, and climate-resilient urban transport, drawing on the systems, institutional reforms, and service delivery gains already achieved under IRUMP.
Component Two: Resilient Rural Bridges and Roads will finance the construction of four climate-resilient bridges at Lubgu in Sumbuya, Moselolo in Moyamba District, Komrabai in Tonkolili District, and Kabba Ferry in Karene District. These bridges are intended to replace vulnerable and unsafe crossings and provide safer, all-season movement for communities and goods. Associated link roads will also be upgraded to further improve access and strengthen the connection between rural settlements, production zones, and market centers.
Component Three: Resilient Agricultural Market Infrastructure builds on the experience and gains of SCADeP. This component will support the assessment and strengthening of agricultural market infrastructure in the targeted districts, helping to create safer, more efficient, and more resilient trading environments for farmers, traders, and consumers. It aims to reduce post-harvest losses, improve market access, and support the commercialization of agricultural produce.
Component Four: Project Implementation Support and Institutional Strengthening will provide coordination, technical assistance, fiduciary oversight, and monitoring needed for effective delivery. It will also strengthen institutional capacity across the participating ministries and support governance, reporting, safeguards compliance, and overall project implementation.
