Freetown International Airport Conference room in Lungi-8th July, 2021.The Ministry of Transport and Aviation has held stakeholders meeting with the Management and Board Members of the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) and the Airport Authority (SLAA) in a bid to update the Ministry on the status of their action plans and activities for the Certification of the Freetown-Lungi International Airport.

In his opening remarks, the Minister of Transport and Aviation, Honorable Kabineh Kallon thanked all stakeholders present, noting that the Air Transport among the modes of transport sectors in Sierra Leone is one of the major contributors to the country’s economic growth, he added that the aviation industry plays a leading and vital role in the development of the country by facilitating movement of passengers, promoting trade and tourism.

CUSTOMS AND EXCISE DEPARTMENT CONFERENCE ROOM, COLLEGE ROAD, CLINETOWN, FREETOWN  5TH JULY, 2021.The Ministry of Transport and Aviation together with the Ministry of Trade and Industry held stakeholders meeting with a cross section of the Management of Customs and Excise Department and the Sierra Leone Ports Authority in a bid to boot their operations and internal challenges.

In his opening remarks, the Minister of Transport and Aviation Honorable Kabineh Kallon welcomed all stakeholders present, noting both Ministries’ interest in finding ways to address the issues raised by both parties in discharging their duties at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay during the last meeting held with them and the general concerns of clients in the clearing of goods and services out of the Sea Ports especially at the exit gate.

Bank of Sierra Leone Complex, Kingtom, Freetown Tuesday 22nd June, 2021 -The Ministry of Transport and Aviation Has Rolled-out the Government Vehicle Fleet Policy for Government officials geared towards safeguarding effective public financial management, good governance, prudent public assets management and effective service delivery as a way of fulfilling one of the macroeconomic aspirations in the “New Direction Government’’ of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio.

The Sierra Leone Vehicle Fleet Policy is designed to improve operational mobility and efficiency of Public Servants in their service delivery in a responsible and cost-effective manner.

One million three hundred people die every day on the road and 50 million are injured worldwide as a result of road traffic accidents, half of that number are not traveling in cars. Every 24 seconds someone is killed in a road traffic accident. About 30 million people also sustain non-fatal injuries from road traffic collision leading to disability worldwide; a quarter of those injured are pedestrians and cyclists.

The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority recorded 2,769 fatalities, and 1,604 persons were severely injured in 2020 from Road traffic crashes. Road traffic accident is now a leading cause of death for children and young adults between the ages of 5-29. The great anguish and economic burden on families and communities road traffic accidents bring, remains an unacceptable price to pay for mobility.
