Every 24 seconds someone is killed in a road traffic accident. About 30 million people also sustain non-fatal injuries from road traffic collision leading to disability worldwide; a quarter of those injured are pedestrians and cyclists.
The Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority recorded 2,769 fatalities, and 1,604 persons were severely injured in 2020 from Road traffic crashes. Road traffic accident is now a leading cause of death for children and young adults between the ages of 5-29.
