Mandate

The Ministry’s mandate is to develop policies and provide effective and efficient oversight over agencies under its supervision for the delivery of safe, reliable, resilient, affordable and sustainable Maritime, Air and Land Transportation throughout the Country.

Functions

  • To enhance service delivery for the office of the Minister, Deputy Minister, and Permanent Secretary on policy matters, acquisition of different modes of transportation and supervision of all Parastatals/Units under the Ministry.
  • To maintain a National transport system that reflects the realities of global transportation trends in consideration with the fiscal situation of the Country.
  • To enhance Urban Mobility and modernize Public Transport System.
  • To enhance transport safety and increase efficiency in the delivery of transport services.
  • To provide a transport system that support and assist long-term economic growth and improves the economic and social well-being of Citizens.
  • To develop and implement public transport investment programmes in line with set Country Policy Direction.
  • To provide policy framework, regulation and implementation models within the transport corridor of Sierra Leone.
